Apprenticeships

Earn while you qualify with an apprenticeship at Secure Trust Bank Group

Let's face it, Uni isn't for everyone, there are other options out there and Secure Trust Bank Group (STBG) can help you build a successful career in finance. We love meeting new people, developing careers and recognising our best people and you could be one of them when you apply for an STBG apprenticeship. We are a fast growing national business with nearly a 1,000 people, offices across the country and big ideas.

At STBG, we provide savings accounts, retail finance, debt recovery, real estate finance and commercial finance. We don't have high street branches and, because of our business model, we are known as a 'challenger' bank.

Everything we do comes from our strategy of Grow, Sustain and Care and we mean to build the best bank in Britain through delivering great customer outcomes, safeguarding our integrity and sustainability for all our customers and stakeholders and making this a great bank for customers and colleagues.

Being a UK only Bank, all our business functions are based in the UK and we offer opportunities, not only in our Banking operational teams but also in our IT, Marketing, HR, Finance and Risk and Compliance teams meaning that we can help achieve a broad range of Career ambitions.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship allows you to get paid work experience while you study a structured programme to gain nationally recognised qualifications.

Apprenticeships include an industry-relevant professional qualification and take between one and four years to complete through a combination of workbased assessments, visits, workshops, reviews and classroom lessons. Apprenticeships aren't just for young people, they are available to all ages and can be great for people wishing to qualify in a new field or discipline or who are returning to work after a long absence.

Apprentice training follows a framework, which is set by the National Apprenticeship Service. Gaining valuable experience of the business as you progress means that you and the business both benefit hugely.

Our Culture

"The people at Secure Trust Bank Group are genuinely welcoming, helpful and really supportive"

We don't just talk about our values here - we really live them and when we mention teamwork, ownership, future orientated, risk aware, performance driven and customer focused we don't just look at 'what' we do, we equally look at 'how' we do it. Our free Employee Assistance Programme is open to every employee if they need it and just wait until you see Boost - our fantastic employee benefits scheme - it's a hard one to beat! Our Group FEEFO score of 4.7 out of five  shows how important good customer service is to us and you will be playing a part in building the best bank in Britain if you come and join our apprenticeship programme. The people at Secure Trust Bank Group are genuinely welcoming, helpful and really supportive so you can stretch your skills, develop and learn, build a successful career and make great friends along the way.

If you want to be part of something more than just the business, you can get involved with our charitable work. Each tear we raise on average over £50,000 for our chosen charities including mental health and local children's charities. It's amazing how much time and dedication our colleagues give to supporting our communities. We also have an active Inclusion Network across the Group which works to ensure that everyone here feels safe, confident and fairly treated regardless of their orientation, race, religion, age or any other personal attribute.

Staff also get to have a say in where we can improve and what we are good at in our annual Your Voice survey which is linked to Great Place to Work.

Career Progression

We understand that you're ambitious because you are looking at apprenticeships with STB Group. You want to stretch yourself, learn new things and move on and that's why 100% of our roles are advertised internally. We know that growing our own talent is key to our future success, so we both win.

Whatever you decide, we can help make your dreams become reality. You don't have to move up to move on here, there are loads of different business areas to explore.

Learning and Development

Following your two day corporate induction at Head Office where you meet other new starters, you will have immediate access to exceptional learning opportunities through our nationally accredited Learning and Development team. Last year we delivered over 10,500 hours of training in subjects ranging from Decision Making to our Confident Leader Academy for every stage of the leadership journey.

We all learn in interactive, activity based environments where you share your experiences and learning objectives with colleagues across the Group. You get a blended learning experience and monthly e-learning on interesting subjects such as anti-money laundering and financial crime risks.

We also offer London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) qualifications as standard. Once you have completed your studies through your allocated college, you can also look at other qualifications specific to your chosen career path. While you earn you will be picking up critical skills every day relevant to your discipline. Some examples are customer service skills, stakeholder management, meetings and presentation skills.

You can join our coaching or mentoring programmes where colleagues benefit from more experienced team members who will advise and guide them.
