What does it mean exactly to be a head of relationship management? David Burke is on hand to tell all...
First and foremost, how long have you been working at Secure Trust Bank?
I joined the real estate finance team as a relationship director back in July 2019, having held the same role previously at NatWest. To be honest, I haven't looked back since!
What exactly does your new role entail?
As head of relationship management, I am responsible for supporting the bank's relationship directors to facilitate growth and build customer relationships.
I'm fortunate to have 25 years of experience in the commercial banking sector, six of which have been spent as a relationship director here at Secure Trust Bank.
During this time, I've been able to build strong working relationships with everybody on the real estate finance team and look forward to supporting them over the coming years.
Do you have any short-term goals as head of relationship management?
One of my key short-term goals is to increase the level of lending in residential development finance.
Only a few months ago did the real estate finance division deliver a record-breaking level of lending, and I'm hoping to continue the momentum by helping businesses access the funding needed to get their projects off the ground and see them through to completion.
Here at Secure Trust Bank, we offer bespoke property development finance products to suit a variety of projects, from conversions to refurbishments and building homes, studios and apartments from scratch.
How has your 25 years of industry experience helped you to prepare for this new role?
25 years - where has the time gone! During this time, I've had the pleasure of working with many great people across many different teams. In my new role, I will bring a key learning from each of them.
What advice would you give to someone entering the world of real estate finance?
When working on any deal, make sure that you're part of the solution, rather than part of the problem.
It's important to remember that no two transactions are the same, and challenges will likely arise along the way.
If they do, be open and transparent with the customer and work with them, alongside the team around you, to deliver the right outcome for all parties.
Coffee or tea in the morning?
Coffee without a doubt.
Do you have a favourite sports team?
Arsenal - another emotional season!
