How to recognise fraud

Fraud isn’t always easy to spot, but here are some key things to look for:

You’ve been contacted about an account or loan that you didn’t take out

If someone has applied for an account or loan using your details, you may receive a letter or email about it. You’ll need to contact the company immediately to tell them.

Unrecognised transactions on your bank statements

Check your bank statements and if there’s a transaction that you don’t recognise, contact your bank as soon as possible. The earlier you spot something, the sooner your bank will be able to investigate.

Post from your bank has gone missing

If you’re expecting a new bank card, a statement, or a letter from your bank and it’s taking longer than you would have thought, your post could have been intercepted or stolen. Contact your bank so that they can protect your account. If you’re expecting a letter from Secure Trust Bank that has not yet arrived and you’re worried it may have gone missing, call us on 0345 111 7092.

Other signs could be:

  • emails have disappeared from your inbox
  • calls are being diverted to another phone number
  • you’ve seen on a credit report that there are credit applications you haven’t made

If you spot any of these, or you’re concerned that you could have been targeted, please call us on 0345 111 7092.
